At the age of 6, she witnessed the 1988 Armenian earthquake that left her native city devastated. In an article written following a March 17, 2014 earthquake in Los Angeles, she wrote: “Every time we get a shaker here in Southern California I quickly have a flashback to my childhood. I was 6-years old in 1988 when a devastating earthquake hit my hometown in Gyumri.” Meantime, the ethnic conflict with Azerbaijan intensified as the Soviet Union was on its way to collapse. Karapetyan is a reporter and anchor at FOX 11 News in Los Angeles, California. She anchors Good Day LA anchor from 7 to 10 am alongside Tony McEwing. Her love and passion for journalism began at a very young age when she went back for a summer visit to Armenia. She decided to spend her time there not by being a tourist, but by exploring to see what everyday life was like for the majority. Her family moved to the United States when she was six years old. This was after the demise of the Soviet Union, a brewing conflict with Azerbaijan, and a devastating earthquake.
Prior to joining the FOX 11 Los Angeles News team, she worked for KOIN-TV in Portland, Oregon. During her working time there, she served the station as a general assignment reporter and fill-in host. Before working there, she worked in Idaho Falls. While there, she served at KIDK-TV as a producer, reporter, and anchor for several years. Her journalism career job began in Los Angeles working at KABC-TV as an intern. She also worked for KFI 640 AM radio in Burbank as an intern.
