McGlowan was born and raised in Mississippi to her loving and caring parents, James Thomas McGlowan, her father, and Alberta, her mother. James was a famous educator and minister who due to his passion for education established the first segregated school for Afro-American children back in 1950.
Her father was also a community activist and a civil rights worker who was also the first principal of now called Oak Grove Central Elementary School between 1958 and 1960. Unfortunately, her dad passed away in the year 1982 when Angela was just about 12 years old.
Alberta, her mother, was born in Hernando, Mississippi, and failed 6th grade because she had to pick cotton and work hard doing 4 jobs to support her 5 children. McGlowan was raised alongside four of her siblings whom she prefers to keep information about away from the limelight.
