There, she established the station’s investigative unit Digging Deeper, and anchored the 5, 6, and 11 pm newscasts. Her journalism career began at FOX28 in South Bend, Ind. There, she worked as an MMJ and ultimately, as a weekend anchor.
She investigated a factory worker’s death that prompted an overhaul to Indiana’s worker’s compensation laws – marking the first changes to the statute in more than 30 years while in Fort Wayne. That same report earned her a National Murrow Award and an Emmy. Rivas worked at a public relations agency in Miami as an account executive. There, she booked interviews in local and national newspapers and client appearances on local, national, and cable news networks, before switching careers, returning to school, and beginning a career in journalism.
