Thomas also worked as a morning meteorologist for KHBS/KHOG-TV in Fort Smith/Fayetteville, AR, after retiring from his captain position in the US Air Force. As a morning meteorologist, Thomas covered thunderstorms across western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. Notably, his passion for weather began when he was just 6 years old in his hometown of North Andover, MA. He used to sit by the window and watch New England’s powerful ocean storms, while he recorded himself with a cassette saying, “It’s rainy, snowy, windy … That’s all the news for now. This is Danny Thomas.” His most memorable moment was his coverage during Hurricane Katrina.
Off the screens, Thomas enjoys most of his time playing basketball, running, coaching his son’s baseball and basketball teams, watching his daughter ride back horses, playing tennis and golf, and even lifting weights. He is also a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society, alongside his colleague, Lisa Spencer, making them the only two Certified Broadcast Meteorologists at WSMV-TV.
