Porter joined NewsChannel 3 in October 2009, relocating to West Michigan after working at WHIO in Dayton, OH, where he served primarily as the morning and noon meteorologist for nearly four years. Before that, he gained experience as a morning meteorologist at WBOC in Salisbury, MD, and briefly held a weekend meteorologist position at WKTV in Utica, NY. Jeff’s passion for meteorology dates back to his childhood, leading him to pursue a degree in the field from Penn State University, which he completed in 2003.
He also gained valuable experience during a summer internship at The Weather Channel. Jeff holds both the AMS and CBM seals from the American Meteorological Society, as well as the National Weather Association Broadcaster’s Seal of Approval. Outside of his professional work, Jeff is an active volunteer, dedicating his time every month since 2012 to the Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and staying updated on weather developments.
