Reppenhagen attended Manitou Springs High School where he graduated in 1992. After this, he worked for about two years before he decided to go back to school and joined Mesa State College now known as Colorado Mesa University located in Grand Junction, Colorado. There, he studied between 1994 and 1999 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication. After this, later in 2006, he went on to further his studies and joined Mississippi State where he studied till 2010. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience and Meteorology.

Reppenhagen works for KUSA 9 News where he serves the station as a Weather Reporter. After his high school education, he decided not to go to college right away. Then, he first made a trip to Australia to play baseball on a team that was representing Colorado. He got to live with host families Down Under while playing ball and experiencing a great country as a teenager. After this, he went on to work at Keystone Resort for about two years where he was taking care of the ice rink and registering more than 100 hits on his ski pass.

After this, he decided to join college and when in school, he got his first job in TV News at KJCT-8 and KKCO-11. Back in the year 2001, he made a move to Wichita, Kansas where he was working for KAKE-10 and saw his first Kansas supercell thunderstorm come marching across the plains. After this, he was hooked on severe weather and storm chasing.

Later on, after covering numerous tornadoes, and severe weather outbreaks, he decided to move to Florida to experience some tropics storms. Back in the year 2004, he covered his first four hurricanes Ivan, Charley, Jeanne, and Frances. In 2005, he went on to cover Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma, Dennis, and Ophelia.

During his time working for WFTV-9 News, he decided to strengthen his weather knowledge and rejoined school at Mississippi State. His job focus changed from photographing the news to forecasting and reporting on the weather as a Meteorologist.

He then spent about 10 years working for WFTV located in Orlando where he was covering 14 hurricanes and 4 other named tropical storms. Among his most memorable moments was riding a hurricane hunter aircraft to the eye of the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, Wilma, in October 2005. His other memorable experience was seeing the EF-5 tornado damage for the first time in Hackleburg, Alabama. He also won a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award for his coverage of the April 2011 tornado super outbreak across the state of Alabama.

Away from work, he may be found in the mountains in the middle of a winter storm or maybe on the plains during severe weather. In moments when Mother Nature is at her worst, Cory is usually at his best. He states that he uses his background and experience to report on issues such as the environment, the atmosphere, and nature. In addition to this, he is an accomplished forecaster and may also fill in in the studio when needed.
