Sabol is a meteorologist for Fox 8 News. He is also a trained Skywarn Severe Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service. In 1999 he was the recipient of an Associated Press Award for “Outstanding Weather Special”. While growing up he witnessed and forecasted many weather events such as the heavy snows of the late 1970s, the drought of 1988, and a few tornado outbreaks.
Scott visits local schools speaking to students about the importance of reading and education. He has a weather blog SCOTT’S WORLD OF WEATHER (since 2005) which features the science of weather and long-range forecasting where he explains the research behind the forecasts. His focus recently has been the psychology of how people perceive the weather forecast in an effort to improve communication of the weather story.
Sabol holds the American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal #770 and the AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologist Seal #726. Scott is among the few broadcast meteorologists to hold both seals. During his free time, he enjoys sports. For two years he was the captain of his Division III college baseball team and had a batting average of over 0.400. He has coached baseball, basketball, and football locally. Sabol enjoys photography, drawing, playing drums, and weightlifting.
