Trent Okerson is an American Chief Meteorologist working for WPSD in Paducah, Kentucky as a Chief meteorologist and weekday morning and midday meteorologist. He joined the station in October 2007.

Okerson is a Chief Meteorologist working for WPSD in Paducah, Kentucky. He has won the Kentucky Associated Press “Best Weather Anchor” award four times, and his coverage of the famous tornado on December 10, 2021, earned him an Emmy nomination. His hometown is Metropolis, Illinois. Trent’s passion for the weather began with a dread of storms he experienced as a child. His interest in the weather is influenced in part by his ties to previous storms in his family. Trent used his Weather Channel cloud chart to identify the clouds when he was a small child.
He also constructed hurricane tracking maps and never missed the forecast on WPSD. Trent received the National Weather Association Seal of Approval in June 2011. He is appreciative of the people who relied on his and his team’s forecast. Trent’s kindergarten teacher learned about his passion for weather and arranged for him to visit the WPSD weather center on a tour to celebrate his sixth birthday and get to know former chief weatherman Cal Sisto. Trent worked in education for more than five years as a junior high and high school science teacher before joining Local 6.
It is an honor to be able to work at his hometown station after growing up watching WPSD. He enjoys the challenge presented by our unpredictable weather. He says without a doubt, the most important part of his job is to help protect the people who depend on his team’s information. His mission is to save lives by tracking storms. When Trent isn’t at work, you can probably find him with Hansen at a nearby baseball, playing golf, running, or doing some form of yard maintenance.
