Mahfuz serves as the co-anchor of WGAL News 8 at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. She joined the station in July 2024, and in her current role, she covers major local and national stories for the Susquehanna Valley audience. Since becoming a member of the WGAL News team, Mahfuz has been nominated three times for the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award, for Best News Anchor, Best Evening Newscast, and Best Human Interest (Long-Form). Occasionally, she was the 2025 Emory University 40 Under Forty honoree and has also served as a Moderator for the Harrisburg Mayoral debate and Host of the NBC/WGAL Olympics Zone.
Before joining WGAL, Mahfuz served as an evening news anchor at DC News Now (Washington, D.C.), where she made history as the first Bengali-American full-time local news anchor in the U.S. In addition to her on-air role, Mahfuz hosted a weekly public affairs program connecting state and congressional representatives in West Virginia, Maryland, DC, Virginia, and their constituents.
Notably, Mahfuz launched her career as a full-time journalist at Ebru TV in October 2012, where she worked as a General Assignment Reporter. In this role, Mahfuz covered Hurricane Sandy, the Sandy Hook shooting, and breaking news from the UN General Assembly on U.S.–Iran relations, Crimea, and Syria. From Ebru-TV (October 2012 to August 2014), Mahfuz relocated to Southern Utah, where she joined ABC4 Utah as a reporter and Southern Utah Bureau Chief, and helped launch the station’s first news bureau in St. George.

Among the accolades she has received are the Alliance of Women in Media’s Gracie Award for Outstanding Producer in TV news in June 2015. Additionally, she has received recognition from the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America, which recognized her for her work in mainstream journalism as a 2nd generation Bengali-American. In addition, the Society of Professional Journalists – Utah Chapter presented her with an award for her work as a multimedia journalist in 2015.
