Shaw is a main news anchor working for WOOD TV8. She has reported major West Michigan news events over the years such as President Gerald R. Ford, his wife, First Lady Betty Ford, and the passing of Grand Rapids’ favorite son.
On a daily basis, she alerts viewers to live, breaking stories. Additionally, she has been involved in years of election nights, including Gov. Jennifer Granholm, the elections of Gov. Rick Snyder, and the election of Michigan’s first female governor.
Prior to arriving in Grand Rapids in October 1994, she worked as the main anchor of the 6 p.m. & 11 p.m. newscasts for WNEM TV5 in the Saginaw/Flint/Bay City/Midland area. Before that, she worked at WWTV 9&10 at Cadillac, WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach, and WEYI-TV25 in Flint and South Carolina.
When she’s not at the desk, she loves being outdoors, flies fishing on local rivers with her teenage son, spends time on our beautiful lakes and beaches, and goes to concerts, golfing, and sporting events.
Shaw was named to the leadership board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and she also supports many charities and organizations throughout West Michigan. Moreover, she emcees and hosts events for dozens of organizations. for example; the Van Andel Institute’s Angels of Excellence program and Silent Observer.
For her news involvement, she has received countless awards from the Associated Press, the Michigan Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences eg. an Emmy for Best News Anchor in Michigan, and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
In 2018, she was awarded the prestigious Silver Circle Award. She is part of the Michigan Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the women’s career organization, Inforum. Shaw enrolled at Oakland University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and from Western Michigan University, received a Master’s Degree in Counseling/Psychology.
