Tazewell serves as the national weekday evening news anchor for Spectrum News Networks based in New York City, where she anchors during the 6 pm news broadcast. She joined the Spectrum News team in July 2020 as an anchor for the Statewide newscast and was later promoted to her current role in July 2022. She is driven to craft compelling stories that are catalysts for positive change. Before joining the Spectrum News team, Tazewell was appointed by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda to help run and revamp the ABC News Nation’s TV station, where she was also serving as an evening anchor and reporter.
She had previously served as an evening anchor and reporter at WNCN-TV, a CBS affiliate station in North Carolina. In this role, Tazewell delivered the evening newscasts at 5 pm, 5:30 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm. Sharon also anchored WNCN’s Morning newscasts. During her time at the station, Sharon covered a wide range of breaking and feature stories. She was the first journalist to interview the fathers of three Muslim students tragically killed by their neighbor in Chapel Hill, NC, and continued to update their stories throughout the federal investigation. Sharon led in-depth coverage of protests in Durham following the removal of a Confederate monument and the fight against HB2.
Tazewell also anchored extensive hurricane coverage and documented the emotional journey of a North Carolina teenager who found out he had a heart donor to the day he walked out of the hospital with a new heart. Occasionally, Tazewell covered the Tony Awards from the Red Carpet and conducted interviews with Ellen, as well as hosts from The Talk and Extra. She even made a cameo appearance on The Young & the Restless. One of her favorite stories was when she profiled Make-A-Wish children and raised millions of airline miles and thousands of dollars for children to travel to their “wish,” including a boy whose face was mauled off by a dog.
In addition to her 20+ years of broadcast experience, Tazewell was an evening anchor at WCTV Eyewitness News, where she delivered the 5 pm, 5:30 pm, and 11 pm evening newscasts for CBS and anchored 10 p.m. news for FOX. Additionally, she anchored the weekday and weekend evening newscast at WEHT-ABC News 25 in Indiana, United States. When she is not in the newsroom, Tazewell enjoys spending time with his family, playing piano, and travelling. She is also an avid member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
