Shannon Murray is an American Anchor/Reporter working for KDFW in Dallas, Texas, in the United States as a news anchor and reporter. She joined the station in January 2016. She previously worked as Reporter and Fill-in anchor for Austin’s ABC affiliate, KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas Area before joining Fox 4 News.

Murray is a News anchor and reporter for KDFW-TV Fox 4 News from 4 to 10 am. Her journalism career has been Texas through and through and reporting the news in Dallas brings it all full circle. Her passion for journalism began while in high school whereby she anchored their school newscast, Eye of the Panther News, and they won the state competition for broadcasting and even went on to place 2nd in nationals her senior year.

Shannon’s teacher, Mrs. Nancy Noyes, is the woman who encouraged her to pursue journalism in college and she is one of the main reasons she is still doing it today. She, therefore, joined the University of Texas to pursue her career. While in college she held an internship with a local news station and spent a summer in Los Angeles where she interned for The Ellen Degeneres Show.

While working at The Ellen Degeneres Show, showed her, it takes a lot of work behind the scene to make it happen so as to have fun on television. She was also president of her sorority, Alpha Phi, and got involved with the UT television station, Texas Student Television.

After graduating from college, Murray began her first job at KOSA in Midland/Odessa working as a reporter. She has never been there but made the six-hour drive west and didn’t think twice. That’s where she learned to report, shoot video, produce, edit, anchor, and sometimes she even ran the teleprompter. She also picked up a few skills at KCRS Radio, where she learned to run the control board and filled in as host for a political talk radio show.

Shannon was then offered a job at KVUE in Austin as a reporter and spent the next three years embracing everything the capital city had to offer live music, the outdoors, and tacos. While at work she primarily covered crime and courts, sometimes spending weeks inside a courtroom on a high-profile case. She also had the chance to cover fun events such as the Longhorn football and Austin City Limits Music Festival. Austin will always have a special place in her heart but when the opportunity at FOX 4 came up, the drive up I-35 didn’t seem so bad all of a sudden.

She is a runner and loves checking out different trails around DFW. Her first distance race was in 2008, The Dallas White Rock Half-Marathon with her dad. And since then she has finished a sprint triathlon, a hand full of half marathons, and a couple of full marathons in Austin. Murray also serves as a coach and ambassador for Girls on the Run, a mentorship program that helps 3rd – 5th-grade girls build confidence through running. She is also a member of the YMCA Healthy Living Advisory Committee. During her spare time, she enjoys visiting the dog park with her blind rescue pup, Boo Boo, and traveling.
