During his time at the university, he actively involved himself in the Theta Chi Fraternity (Delta Kappa Chapter, Ball State University). Also, Ahlwardt was a member of the Straight No Chaser (A Cappella Group). His voice, arrangements, and original songs are currently featured on the A Cappella group’s albums.
