Lopez works for WFAA in Dallas, TX as the senior crime and justice reporter. Since 2003 she reported to the Dallas Police Department. Throughout her career, she has broken some of the biggest stories at the Dallas Police Department including the day DPD headquarters came under attack by suspect James Boulware.
Also, she has reported many national stories including the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the siege at the Branch Davidian Compound in Waco, the Oklahoma City bombing, and lately the ambush of 5 officers in downtown Dallas. She graduated from Odessa Permian( MOJO) It’s the high school that was made popular by Friday Night Lights.
That is the reason for her passion for football and sports. In 1984, she left Odessa and moved to North Texas State University where she graduated with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film. Then she interned at KDFW in 1988. That same year she met her mentor Gloria Campos.
She inspired her and assisted her put together her first resume tape. 10 years later she was working at WFAA. Lopez worked in Midland Odessa, Christi, Phoenix, Corpus, Austin, and WFAA. She has reported some of the biggest stories in their r nation’s history including the murders of 5 Dallas Police officers, the Oklahoma City Bombing, and The Space Shuttle Columbia crash.
Lopez has earned A National Murrow Award, many community service awards, and 4 Emmy Awards. Her dream was to work at WFAA when she was in college a professor told her to write her goals down. She wrote down that she wanted to work at WFAA within 10 years after graduating. 10 years later she was working at WFAA!!
