She has a passion for storytelling and always goes back to the basics of factual, ethical journalism. Over her career, she’s covered countless breaking news stories including Hurricane Irma in 2017, the 2010 Panama City School Board Shooting, the aftermath of Hurricane Michael in 2018, and the 2016 Pulse Nightclub Massacre. during the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on Orlando’s $75 billion dollar tourism industry and economic recovery, she led daily coverage.
She was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award in July 2020 for her coverage of growth and development. Also, she is a 5x Florida Associated Press Broadcast winner. Yanes is beyond excited to serve Southwest Florida, especially representing those of the LatinX community, and is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2010. Her hobbies are spoiling her cat Leila (aka Kitty)reading, soaking up sunsets, and hunting for the best shrimp taco in town.
