Woods is a Meteorologist working for FOX 5 in New York. In October 2003, he was appointed the “Good Day” morning meteorologist. In the tri-state region, Woods has reported on numerous significant weather phenomena, such as blizzards, Nor’easters, hurricanes, and heatwaves. Most recently, he covered Hurricane Irene for nearly 72 hours on live. Since 1993, he has resided in numerous places across the nation. In Eastern North Carolina, he held his first broadcasting position as the morning and noon weather anchor from 1993 to 1996.
He covered several storms while he was in North Carolina, including Bertha and Fran in 1996. Mike delivered the dry forecasts in Phoenix’s deserts from 1996 to 2001 before leaving for New York. Woods, who holds the AMS seal, has been nominated for an Emmy by the NATAS for outstanding weather prediction, and in 2009, McDonald’s gave him the Black Media Legends award. A cause that is very dear to Mike’s heart, cancer, is one of his humanitarian endeavors. Through the program Team in Preparing, which is committed to preparing runners, walkers, triathletes, cyclists, and hikers for events to raise money for cancer patients and their loved ones, he just raised over $10,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Woods also serves as a patron for the Fox News Apprentice Program, a diversity initiative that offers support to young people and students interested in a career in journalism and television. He is a contributing member and supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Ronald McDonald House, Housing Works, AYUDA for the Arts, and 100 Black Men Inc. of New York and its Eagle Academy. Woods, a skilled triathlete, loves physical activities of any kind, including skiing and working out. He was highlighted in the “Real People” section of Muscle & Fitness magazine.
