Mike Lynch is an American journalist working for WCVB as a sports correspondent. He is a retired principal weeknight sports anchor for WCVB for 34 years since September 1985 and for 37 years since March 1982 a member of the WCVB sports team.

Lynch works at WCVB Channel 5 as a sports correspondent. He hosted the weekly sports program “Patriots All Access,” a behind-the-scenes look at New England’s NFL franchise from 1995 through 2008, and worked as a broadcast commentator during Patriots pre-season games.

He has also done play-by-play reports for the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and college football. Lynch hosted the Boston College weekly football coach’s show “Eagles Preview” on Channel 5 for 11 years. He started off “High Five,” a weekly NewsCenter 5 report highlighting the achievements of high school student-athletes in 1985.

For more than three decades, these unique segments have been lauded by critics and earned many honors for a continuing commitment to reporting high school athletics. SportsCenter 5 won the United Press International Award for “Best Sports Reporting” in the country in 1987.

In 1985-1991, 1999, 2003, and 2006-2012 for a total of 16 times, the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association was nominated Massachusetts “Sportscaster of the Year” the most honors of anyone in the history of the award.

Before joining WCVB, he was a sports director for Boston’s WMRE Radio, and retired from WITS, from 1977 to 1983. At this time, he was responsible for the station’s Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins pre-game shows. Moreover, he hosted a weeknight sports talk show and was the radio voice of Harvard University’s football broadcasts.

In 1974 was when he started his broadcasting career at WLYN Radio in Lynn, where he worked as a color commentator for high school football and basketball broadcasts.

Lynch was raised in the Boston suburb of Swampscott and graduated in 1977 from Harvard. He quarterbacked and kicked for the Harvard team that won the 1975 Ivy League Football Championship while in college.

Mike Lynch Recovering From Stroke

Lynch suffered a stroke according to WCVB Channel 5 family. After arriving, he was given a CAT scan and the brain bleed stopped. Nothing had changed even after having another CAT scan the following day. His wife mentioned that her husband awaits the move to Spaulding to start rehab, he has made noticeable progress already.
