Benner works for KGW in Portland, Oregon as a reporter. He has been selected for numerous Emmys and has reported countless big stories. He covered the disappearance of Kyron Horman, a story that garnered national attention. Benner was sent to Scottsdale, Arizona to report the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship game in 2011, but he did not get to report much of the game or the festivities.
Then he was sent to Tucson to cover the mass shooting at former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ town hall event which is one of the most difficult stories he has ever had to cover. He worked for WGBA-TV (NBC) in Green Bay, Wisconsin as a general assignment reporter before moving to the Pacific Northwest. Before that, he worked at WJFW-TV (NBC) in Rhinelander, Wisconsin as an anchor and reporter.
Benner joined Indiana University after completing his secondary school education. In 2004, he graduated and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. At the campus radio station, WIUS he worked as the news director and sports director. During his free time, he enjoys keeping tabs on the St. Louis Cardinals and Oregon Ducks, spending time with family and friends, and trying new restaurants.
