In Houston, his father rose to prominence as one of the main anchors at ABC13. Notably, Matt’s uncle, Dan Rascon, shares the same profession as an anchor. Furthermore, Matt’s brother, Jacob, has also followed suit and pursued a career in the media business.

Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Brigham Young University. Following graduation, he relocated with his family from the mountains to the sunny beaches of San Diego. There, he embarked on a career as a multimedia journalist, covering various topics such as court cases, wildfires, and corruption. During his college years, Matt took a hiatus to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, spending two years in South Africa and Botswana.

Rascon became a part of the 3News team in April 2023, taking on roles as both a reporter and anchor. Matt’s journey into journalism began in the news industry and took shape as a radio reporter in Rexburg, Idaho. His transition to television occurred in Utah, where he hosted a national cable show on BYUtv, anchored for KBYU-TV, and served as a multimedia journalist at ABC4 in Salt Lake City.
After relocating to Boston with his family, he worked as a reporter and anchor, covering a wide range of topics from national politics to protests and nor’easters. Returning to Utah, where his television career originated, Matt garnered multiple Emmys for his reporting. During this time, he contributed to the development of KSL+, the station’s inaugural digital-only news program and podcast, which he wrote, edited, and anchored.
His passion for travel led him to spend significant periods living and studying in Guatemala and Paraguay during high school, and later in South Africa and Botswana for two years as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He also lived in China for six months, teaching English alongside his wife. During his leisure time, Matt enjoys watching movies, climbing, exploring the outdoors, and cherishing moments with his wife and daughters.
