Kern works at Local4 as a Sports Director. He was brought up in San Diego, California, he relocated to Central Nebraska to report Tri-Cities sports for KSNB Local4 in July of 2021. At KDUS AM 1060, an SB Nation Radio affiliate in Phoenix, he hosted ‘The Smart Play” Radio Show. He spent time covering the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks as an extension of this show.
