Owen currently serves as a Senior Co-Author at The MIT Press since January 2022. She co-authored the book “Data Is Everybody’s Business: The Fundamentals of Data Monetization,” released on September 26, 2023. Prior to her role at The MIT Press, Owen held the position of Senior Lecturer & Executive Director at MIT CISR within the MIT Sloan School of Management from September 2015 to December 2021. In this role, she oversaw research and operations, focusing on optimizing the impact of research findings. Owen was actively involved in editing research, fundraising, developing new products, and managing talent. Additionally, she served on the MIT Sloan Executive Education committee and participated in the MIT Delta-v Entrepreneurial Accelerator program.
Before joining The MIT Press and MIT CISR, Owen worked at Forrester Research, where she held the role of Vice President and Research Director from April 2012 to August 2015. In this capacity, she led a team of analysts, providing research and advisory services to Enterprise Architects. Owen played a key role in coordinating content planning, editing research reports, and coaching senior professionals, contributing to the development of a high-performing and collegial team.
Her journey at Forrester Research began as a Senior Analyst from November 2007 to April 2012. During this time, Owen covered the search industry, honing analytical and communication skills and gaining insights into how vendors manage and market their products.
Prior to her time at Forrester, Owen was a Project Manager in Knowledge Management at Abbott Laboratories from February 2003 to November 2007. In this role, she led the delivery of enterprise search capability, worked closely with tech vendors and enterprise architects, and successfully launched the global intranet in 2004, showcasing her skills in intrapreneurship and change management.
Owen started her career as an Independent Consultant at State Farm Insurance from September 2000 to February 2003, where she worked on various projects for Fortune 500 clients, including database creation, thesaurus building, information audit, and organization scheme development.
