Before rejoining the WATE Storm team in 2005, Weathers worked for the Weather Channel as a radio broadcast meteorologist. During his years with the group, Weathers produced, created, and presented daily live and recorded on-air forecasts for multiple large-market affiliates and satellite radio, such as KMOX in St. Louis, WGN in Chicago, WCBS in New York City, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, KNX in Los Angeles, and WJR in Detroit. Additionally, Weathers worked as a weekend meteorologist for KOCO-TV, where he hosted the 5 am and noon broadcasts.

Weathers has received several accolades, including the National Weather Association Broadcasting Seal of Approval, the Humanitarian Award from the Governor of Oklahoma for coverage of the May 3, 1999, tornado super-outbreak, and the Associated Press Broadcast Meteorologist of the Year award.
