Keenan Smith is an American journalist and meteorologist of African descent who is working for WXYZ as a morning news anchor since March 2018. Also, he serves as a morning meteorologist and an anchor from 7  to 9 a.m. on TV 20 Detroit. He joined the ABC 7 Detroit News team in September 2010. Additionally, he has served the station for more than a decade.

Further, he loves the heat and humidity of July and January’s gently falling snow that makes Michigan so special.

On a side note, he left sunny South Florida for Michigan due to its four discrete seasons. Prior to WXYZ, he served in the Midwest, counting WGN and CLTV in Chicago, and WEEK-TV in Peoria, Illinois. However, his initial TV job was when he served at WGAL, the dominant NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. During his time there, he began serving as an intern and after a few months, he was anchoring cut-ins overnight.

Moreover, he left Lancaster for an off-screen job at NBC News in New York City. In addition to that, he served Dateline NBC and NBC’s New York News Bureau. To boot, he served in Trenton, New Jersey at WZBN on-screen, and in Raleigh, North Carolina. Else, he received an Illinois Associated Press Award for Investigative Reporting.

Further, he was chosen as a full member of the American Meteorological Society. Also, he holds the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval. In 2005, he was selected for a Midwest Regional Emmy Award for Best Weather.
