Nielsen works for KPIX as a reporter and has spent over a decade sharing people’s stories. Later, after she joined KPIX she found herself reporting the Wine Country Wildfires. When the fires began and provided constant updates from the fire lines she was one of the first reporters to arrive in Santa Rosa. She earned two national journalism awards: the National Headliner Award for Breaking News and The Society of Professional Journalists National Sigma Delta Chi Award for Breaking News for the stories of bravery and tragedy she filed.
Nielsen provided live reports from almost a dozen major wildfires across Northern California in 2018, including the Carr Fire in Redding and the Camp Fire in Paradise. She earned the National Headliner Award for Breaking News for the second time in as many years, an unprecedented honor.
She has worked at TV stations in Missouri, and Nevada before returning to the West coast, Arkansas, and New York. Lately, she has reported for Comcast Sports Bay Area, concentrating on horse racing and baseball. From the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, she holds a Master of Jurisprudence and is a proud graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism at UM-Columbia. During her free time, she is out golfing, skiing, and running with her dog.
