Acevedo’s reporting played a significant role in NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage, which was recognized in January 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I.
DuPont-Columbia University Awarded him for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and in-depth reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.” Additionally, the duPont Award, given by Columbia University as well, is widely acknowledged as the Pulitzer Prize of the broadcast, documentary, and online worlds. The National Puerto Rican Day celebration Committee honored Acevedo by designating him as an “Ambassador” for the 2018 celebration in New York City in appreciation of his post-Maria reporting and dedication to the highest standards of journalism.
In November 2018, Comite Noviembre honored him for his dedication to Puerto Rico and long-lasting contributions to the recovery effort. Acevedo spent more than ten years working in local radio and television in Puerto Rico before joining NBC 4 New York. He covered the Olympic Summer Games in London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016) for the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee as well as the Pan American Games in Toronto (2015) for Telemundo.
