Jon Kay Profession

He takes in this opportunity with great appreciation as he gets to sit down on the Breakfast sofa. This is as he was previously standing up as a reporter for BBC News. He got to decide to start a career in broadcasting journalism while making around the studios of University Radio Exeter.

Kay joined the BBC team in the year 1993 where he was a trainee reporter while working at local radio stations from Suffolk to Newcastle. He is lucky to have gotten a full-time job at BBC Bristol despite the fact that he wrote off an expensive radio car on his first day at work. He forgot about having a mast on the roof when he drove into a multi-story car park. Kay began his career there on the same day as Susanna Reid another young journalist.

Later on, after working in local radio and regional TV in Bristol, he went to London to work as a political reporter and news correspondent. Jon has also spent a year traveling around the world with his partner who is also a journalist while reporting from South East Asia, Central America, China, and Australia. While reporting in Mexico, they found themselves in the middle of a deadly hurricane.

Later on, upon returning to the United Kingdom, he became the BBC’s West and South of England Correspondent for both radio and national TV. Kay sometimes wishes that he is paid per mile as he has been given quite a number of miles to report on. This is all the way from Land’s End up to Tewkesbury, and over to Oxfordshire and Hampshire. He however states that these areas are among the most beautiful places in Britain and therefore he can’t complain.

He states that with over a quarter a million miles and three children, he relishes his job of the sheer variety of stories from which he can choose to cover. Kay states that some of his reporting has been tough such as the murder of Jo Yeates, the Vanessa George child-abuse scandal, and the repatriations at Wootton Bassett.

He goes ahead to state that hardly a month can pass by without him being battered by the gale-force winds or smothered in the snow. He however later goes ahead to state that he is still thankful that he has gotten to meet some amazing people and report on some fantastic things. These things include an octogenarian sky-diver and the Glastonbury Festival.

He also covers stories that are outside his patch. This is as he was the Olympics correspondent for BBC News at Six and Ten during the London Olympic 2012 games. In addition, he has also travelled all the way across the Atlantic with a ship full of history buffs in order to commemorate the centenary of the Titanic tragedy.

While abroad, he has been able to do several stints as a BBC foreign correspondent. This includes Los Angeles and Washington DC. He has also worked all over Europe. In addition, for the BBC, he has presented almost all kinds of programmes. This includes anchoring the BBC Two environmental series It’s Not Easy Being Green, Drive on 5 live, a documentary about bread-making for BBC Four, and documentaries for Radio 4.
