Jon Delano is an American Professor/Money and politics Editor/Columnist working for CBS Pittsburgh/KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States as a Money and Politics Editor. He joined the station in October 1994. He previously worked as an Adjunct Professor of Politics and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Delano is a Money and Politics Editor for CBS Pittsburgh/KDKA-TV.  He has been the station’s political analyst since 1994. He joined the station full-time as the Money and Politics Editor in September 2001 and this region’s only political analyst who covers national and local issues that affect hometown residents. Jon also produces the Sunday Business Page segments for KDKA’s weekend news and was the co-host of a weekly public affairs program the KD/PG Sunday Edition.

Jon has been recognized for his ability to analyze complex issues and make them understandable to any audience. He has also worked in both the private and government business world practiced law, reported on both television and radio, and also taught at the graduate level. Delano had four one-on-one interviews with President Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign and was the first local TV reporter to interview former President Donald Trump one-on-one.

Delano also interviewed members of the Trump family, many other Democratic and Republican officials including most of the Democratic presidential candidates, and former Vice President Pence. More recently, he has had one-on-one interviews with Vice President Kamala Harris and also the members of the President’s Cabinet, including Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

After fourteen years working in the US Congress as chief of staff to a Pennsylvania congressman Jon began his on-air work in 1991. He then became a political analyst in 1994 for KDKA-TV and reported from both the Republican and Democratic presidential conventions in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2016. He was the first TV reporter in 2008 in the state to interview Barack Obama and had six interviews with him that year, along with Sarah Palin,  Hillary Clinton, and John McCain.

In the year 2011, Delano became the first Pennsylvania television reporter to interview President Obama in the White House, which he also did a second time in 2012. During the 2012 campaign, he interviewed First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, Gov. Mitt Romney, Ann Romney, and Cong. Paul Ryan. Throughout his work, he has won numerous awards including the Small Business Journalist Champion of the Year award from the U.S. Small Business Administration, two Robert Vann awards from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, and the Edward R. Murrow Award for the best “hard news” story in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

Jon recently retired at Carnegie Mellon University’s H. John Heinz College of Information Systems & Public Policy as an adjunct professor where he taught courses on media and public policy, money and politics, and public policy implementation after 25 years of teaching graduate students. He is active in church and volunteers for several community organizations. He often facilitates and moderates candidate debates, programs, and seminars, and speaks on governmental and political issues to civic, business, and labor groups.
