He kick-started his career serving KTIN-TV in Sioux City in lowa as a reporter between the years 1986 and 1987.
Away from work, he serves as a board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Additionally, he is the past president of the Drake University Journalism Alumni Board. Garcia has also served as a volunteer of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and the Chicago Association of Hispanic Journalists. Additionally, he also previously served as a volunteer for the Respiratory Health Association and the “Character Counts” program in Elmhurst. Garcia is an avid runner and has also competed in several and numerous marathons which include the Chicago and Boston marathons.
