He anchors the KCAL News weekday 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts and also hosts the weekend editions of “Sports Central”  Southern California’s most comprehensive sports newscast. He is one of the nation’s most respected sports anchors and for more than 40 years he has been a fixture on KCAL News in Los Angeles.

Being a defensive back in the National Football League, Jim draws upon his experience as a player, his talents as a broadcaster, and his relationships with top athletes and coaches to deliver his award-winning sports reports. He earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2006. This was during a ceremony that was attended by a Who’s Who list of Hall of Fame entertainers, government leaders, and athletes.

In the year 2010, he was inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame. The same organization has named Hill and his KCAL colleagues the best television sports anchor staff in the Los Angeles area several times. Hill has been honored by the Los Angeles Press Club, United Press International, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Associated Press, and many other organizations.

Jim has also been recognized many times by a number of local newspapers as Southern California’s best sportscaster. He was also named the best sports anchor in Los Angeles by USA Today. He started his career in the year 1976 at CBS2 working as a sportscaster. Initially, Hill worked for 11 years with the CBS-owned station. Afterward, following four years in Los Angeles at KABC-TV, he rejoined CBS2 in March 1992.

He is active in numerous community and sports fitness organizations and is a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Urban League and the advisory board for the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as a spokesperson for the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. In this honorary role, he works with the Office of the Mayor and the Department of Recreation and Parks in numerous youth outreach and sports fitness programs.

Jim is also a member of the Governor of California’s Board for Physical Fitness and Sports and the President’s Council for Physical Fitness. Previously he served as chair of the Watts Summer Games, chair of Los Angeles County’s “Just Say No” anti-drug program and president of Athletes for Kids. Hill is also a member of the advisory board for the Grossman Burn Center. He received the Joseph M Quinn Award from the LA Press Club for Lifetime Achievement in the year 2019.
