Thompson serves WDHD as an anchor of the 7News 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 9 p.m. weekday newscasts. She joined the 7 News team in June 2015. Prior to that, she served the NBC affiliate in Kansas City, KSHB as the 6 p.m. weekday anchor.
In addition to anchoring on weekdays, she serves as a reporter for the evening newscasts. Also, she has served as a multimedia journalist. However, her favorite days were when the 6 p.m. newscast she was anchoring began with a story she pitched, wrote, shot, and edited. When she was serving in Kansas City, she was honored with two Emmy awards.
Further, one was for the best anchor in the area while the other one was for her segment on the FCC considering loosening limitations on in-flight cell phone utilization. Before KSHB, she served in Phoenix, Arizona at KPHO as a multimedia journalist and a substitute anchor. Nonetheless, she attained her initial Emmy award for a report on WiFi hacking.
While in Arizona, she provided coverage for the nation’s self-acclaimed toughest sheriff, Joe Arpaio, and the Jodi Arias suit. Moreover, she reported heavily on immigration reform and spent just about two weeks on the forefronts broadcasting the Wallow Fire, Arizona’s biggest wildfire in the nation’s history. Regardless, she began her TV career when she served KTWO-TV in Casper.
Initially, she served KTWO first as a multimedia journalist. Later, she was raised to executive producer and main anchor of the station’s 5 pm, 6 pm & 10 pm newscasts within a year. Also, she served the station as the assistant news director. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, she served as an English tutor as a second language in Madrid, Spain.
On a side note, she enjoys riding horses and being involved in the community. Furthermore, she spends much of her free time as an MC for charity happenings and has served closely with the ALS Association.
