During his time there, Cassette had a full-circle experience while covering Hurricane Nicole, Idalia, and Ian, which caused significant flooding across Central Florida. Cassette also worked as a weekend evening meteorologist at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Virginia, where he gained experience forecasting on mountainous and winter weather conditions.
Cassette’s interest in the weather began during his childhood years in Tampa, Florida. During the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, Cassette spent countless hours following closely the coverage of major storms such as Katrina, Charley, and Ivan. Notably, his career as a meteorologist began when he interned at WFLA-TV in the Greater Tampa Bay Area. He then transitioned into a full-time meteorologist in July 2015, when he joined WIBW-TV as a weekend meteorologist and reporter. Beyond meteorology, Ian is a passionate supporter of Tampa’s sports teams. He loves cheering on the Lightning, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Rays. He also enjoys music and regularly attends concerts by his favorite bands.
