Childers is the anchor and managing editor of Fox 44 News at 9. He has 18 years of broadcast journalism experience as the anchor and managing editor and works as the political reporter for WVLA Local 33 News. He is happy to move to the Capital City, where all of the political action happens.
Before joining the station, he worked for a station in Shreveport Louisiana as a reporter for 11 years and backup anchor, reporting breaking news, criminal courts, and politics.
The Louisiana Broadcaster’s Association awarded him Reporter of the Year in 2009. His most unforgettable report is Hurricane Katrina where he spent 13 days in and around New Orleans reporting the hurricane’s arrival and the devastating floods that followed. Childers provided live reports to Louisiana and for stations all across the country.
He began his career in 1998 in Wichita Falls, Texas working as a reporter and weekend anchor for the CBS affiliate, KAUZ TV. Childers attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas and studied broadcast journalism. There, he realized that he has a passion for television news when he got hands-on experience reporting for the school’s news show on Cable Channel 7. Childers enjoys running and has discovered the beautiful jogging path at LSU Lake.
