Being a Seven-time Emmy Award-winning journalist for more than twenty years, he fell in love with documentaries and telling creative stories about his community while studying at Angelo State University. He joined the station as a member of the marketing department before reporting for KXAN.com starting in 2018.
Eric is well known for his in-depth explainer videos covering science and the environment. He is the co-creator of the Emmy Award-winning series “First Warning Weather University.” He directed and produced the Jim Spencer documentary: “The First Forecast” and the documentary The Last F5, about 1997 Jarrell tornado outbreak. Since he joined KXAN, he has won two National Edward R. Murrow Awards as well as a nomination for a National Scripps Howard award, and seven Lonestar Emmy Awards.
Henrikson also produces KXAN Weather & Traffic, the station’s non-stop weather and traffic show on the CW Austin. During his free time, he loves hiking Central Texas’ trails, learning to bake, playing the latest video games, going to the movies with his husband Steven, and playing with his three dogs.
