Linnert finished her studies at Portage Northern High School and then enrolled in Michigan State University. At Michigan, she finished her studies and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications. During her time there, she worked freelance for various MSU sports that aired on cable TV.

Emily Linnert works for WOOD TV8 as a news anchor News 8 at noon and 4 p.m. Also, she fills in on News 8 at 5 p.m. and The Seven. and works as a reporter. She joined the station in April 2006. Born in Kalamazoo, the 1980 tornado that swept through her west side neighborhood is one of her memories.

After getting an invite to compete on the school’s award-winning Interscholastic Forensic public speaking and presentation team, she decided to try her hand at broadcasting. After graduating, she began working part-time on the assignment desk at WLNS in Lansing.

She later received a promotion to work as a reporter for the morning broadcast. For the first time, she worked on the anchor desk after an overnight snowfall of over 14 inches in December of 2000 trapped her co-workers at home.

Sometime later, she took over the morning anchor position and held the position for a few years. Next, she briefly worked for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as an event planner and fundraiser. She later joined WOOD TV8 as an 11 p.m. producer. Later, she started working as a Daybreak reporter.

During her time at News8, she has worked as an anchor for weekend Daybreak, weekend evenings, and Daybreak. During her free time, she cheers on Michigan State University football as well as talks to and tends to her indoor and outdoor plants and trees. Also, she samples Beer City USA’s IPAs.
