Ed Harding’s Career
Harding works as an anchor at WCVB. He has been a member of NewsCenter 5 for more than 25 years. He is the recipient of many awards including two first-place Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Sound Bites awards for On-Air Personality and three Boston/New England Emmy awards for best Anchor-News.
When he first joined the station, he worked as a weekend sports anchor and reporter. In 2000, he took over as co-anchor of the EyeOpener newscast, and in 2004 added co-anchor of the 11 PM newscast. When WCVB added those newscasts to its lineup in January 2016 he helped create WCVB’s NewsCenter 5 at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
He worked for WISH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis as a sports director and principal sports anchor before joining the station. There he co-produced and reported the station’s annual ‘Indy 500’ special, anchored and produced the 6 PM and 11 PM sportscasts, the NFL Indianapolis Colts coach’s show, and was producer and host of The Colts Today.
On WIBC Radio, he provided live reports and color commentary for Colts games for 3 years. Harding won two Indiana Associated Press awards while in the Midwest and was named Best TV Sportscaster by Indianapolis Magazine. From 1978 to 1981 he worked for WDSU-TV in New Orleans as a sports director and anchor before joining WISH.
He worked as an assistant sports director and weekend anchor for one year at KMSP-TV in Minneapolis. Harding worked for WPTZ-TV in Plattsburgh, NY as a sports director and anchor from 1975 to 1977. He was born in the Boston suburb of Newton and graduated from Emerson College in Boston.
