Bloodsworth is WKRG News 5’s chief meteorologist. He watched a waterspout form during an evening of little league baseball when he was seven years old and that’s when he developed a passion for weather. He was busy tracking tropical storms and hurricanes instead of spending his summers sleeping in and watching Saturday morning cartoons.
Bloodsworth transitioned to KTKA Topeka, KS, one of the most dynamic weather markets in the country after he received a degree in meteorology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. He sharpened his forecasting skills while in Kansas by reporting severe weather outbreaks, blizzards, and heat waves.
He moved south to WJBF in Augusta, GA, and reported the historic rains from Hurricane Joaquin in 2015 and the historic 2014 Georgia/South Carolina Ice Storm. His latest stint in Tampa, FL included aiding in reporting several major weather events, including Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Hurricane Irma in 2017, and Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Bloodsworth is an active member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. From the AMS, he holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation. During his free time, he likes exploring local museums, the best eateries around, and hiking nature trails.
