Mercer is an anchor for Soda City Live at 3:00 and WIS News 10 evening news at 5:00, and 6:00. What led to her dream of being in television news is a project in sixth grade. Her career in television started immediately after college. Plank left her hometown of Indianapolis to go and work in Green Bay, Wisconsin at WBAY TV as a reporter.
While at WBAY TV, Dawndy learned quickly that tall snow boots were the only way to tackle stories in the frozen tundra. And immediately she became a Packers fan and found cheese curds make a great midnight snack. In 1992 she chose to trade in her cross-country skis for water skis and flew south in Columbia, South Carolina where she became a morning anchor at WIS TV. Afterward, she was promoted to the evening newscasts.
After working at WIS for four years. Mercer moved to Houston, Texas in 1996 and spent time at Houston’s KNWS News, KTRK TV, KSBJ Christian Radio, and hosted both a horse and travel pilot show. Plank also starred in print ads, commercials, and industrial films for major corporations. She even had a role in a movie, Equinox Knocks.
While in the Lone Star state, Plank had been flying back and forth to Columbia to shoot reports for a major hospital system. However, the big city life of Houston was enticing, the traffic was not. Afterward, she returned to WIS TV in January of 2001. Dawndy has served numerous organizations over the years including the Crossover Communications International, Palmetto Center for Women, Oliver Gospel Mission, Trinity Focus, and the Sister Study on Breast Cancer through the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Plank is a frequent speaker at churches throughout the state and is an active member at Shandon Baptist Church. She leads a Bible study for young women at the University of South Carolina. She is a triathlete and marathoner, an advocate for plant-based nutrition, passionate about helping others lead healthy lives, and thinks horses are God’s greatest creation.
