Every summer, Curren would spend his time on Long Beach Island, thanks to his grandmother’s house in Barnegat Light. His early years were marked by engaging in activities like surfing and skiing. Little did he know that this profound love for the outdoors would shape his future career in meteorology.
Curren’s journey at News 12 commenced in 1999 when he began freelancing for News 12 Traffic & Weather. His second internship took place at News 12 New Jersey. During this time, the weekend meteorologist, Scot Haney, transitioned to weekday mornings at News 12 Westchester. Curren supported Scot by working on the green screen and crafting resume reels. Eventually, Scot moved on to a position in Connecticut and recommended him as his successor to the News Director.
Initially, there were doubts due to his lack of major TV experience, but Scot vouched for him, assuring him that he would excel. He freelanced at News 12 Westchester for about a month before securing a more permanent role. For a period, he juggled two jobs, commuting between New Jersey and Westchester. Subsequently, he took on the morning shift in Westchester, a role he held from 2000 to 2005. Eventually, he returned to New Jersey permanently and has been fulfilling the evening role ever since.
His profound fascination with severe weather aligns perfectly with the region’s propensity for such conditions. Curren cherishes the challenge that New Jersey’s diverse weather patterns present. Most importantly, he finds great fulfillment in connecting with the local community and receiving their feedback, whether the forecast proves accurate or not.
