McGinness works for KGW as a weekend morning meteorologist. Also, he reports transportation and environmental stories. When he first joined the station he worked as a traffic reporter with KXL radio, reporting morning and afternoon commutes. His role at KGW has expanded to transportation and environmental reporting.
He graduated from Penn State University and majored in meteorology, and track & field. Twenty years later, he still laces up his racing shoes occasionally. McGinness has run the Hood to Coast Relay a dozen times- thankfully never leg 1. He began his TV career in 2001.
He chased floods throughout the Midwest, blizzards, and tornadoes. After spending ten years in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, he came back to Oregon. He produces stories about weather and the environment as part of KGW’s Good Energy Series. As a transportation reporter, he reports issues on roads as well.
