Sneed works as a freelance anchor for Local 3 News. He joined the team in September 2019 and has been anchoring various newscasts. Before coming to Local 3 News, Sneed worked for WTVC-TV News Channel 9 in Greater Chattanooga. He served as a senior news anchor, where he anchored during noon and evening hours, and as a chief investigative and consumer reporter for the Consumer Watch program. He served in this position from February 1992 to December 2017.
During his 25 years as a consumer reporter, Sneed was able to recover more than $10 million in goods and services and recover money that people had spent. While covering these stories, Sneed experienced some challenges, including being shot at by upset business owners who’d gotten a personal visit from one of Calvin’s news cameras.
Sneed began his career in journalism at WKPT Radio TV in Kingsport, Tennessee. During his tenure, he worked as a radio and TV news reporter and anchor, an FM Radio Dee-Jay, and worked part-time at the TV station while in high school. He went on to join Channel 9 Eyewitness News in Tennessee, where he worked as a news reporter and the 11 PM Newscast Producer, for three years since joining in June 1972.
Later in 1975, Sneed joined WIVK-FM in Knoxville, where he worked as the afternoon radio news anchor and reporter. He worked in this position for a year before moving to WATE-TV Channel 6. Here, Sneed had several roles, including co-hosting the “PM Magazine Knoxville”, anchoring the morning weather forecast, anchoring the weekend sports news, and anchoring the noon and evening newscast. Additionally, Sneed has worked for WTVN-TV (now WSYX-TV) and WSWZ-FM.
During his free time, Sneed keeps himself busy taking photographs of bridges across the Chattanooga and Kingsport area. He also serves on several non-profit boards in both cities. Additionally, he is the published author of coffee table books featuring bridges that he’s photographed.
