Having spent more than 20 years in Jackson, Byron brings a wealth of experience to his role, transitioning from WFLA in Tampa, where he excelled as a weekend anchor. Prior to that, he held significant positions such as weekday morning and midday anchor at WOIO/WUAB in Cleveland, Ohio, weekend morning anchor at KCNC in Denver, Colorado, and weekend anchor at WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina.
Throughout his career, Byron has tackled a myriad of major stories ranging from politics and natural disasters to water crises and crime. In 2019, he expertly moderated four statewide debates and hosts the weekly political show, Mississippi Insight. Byron’s coverage extends beyond local issues, as he has reported on numerous breaking news events nationwide, including the contentious 2000 Presidential election while stationed in Tampa, Florida. Additionally, he has closely followed various Presidential candidates during their campaign visits.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Byron actively engages with the community, notably serving as Honorary Chair for the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and contributing to organizations such as JDRF. He has also played a significant role as a long-time member of the Community Advisory Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters, earning recognition through numerous awards from community organizations and the Mississippi Associated Press, along with an Emmy nomination.
