Earlier before he could earn his college degree, his journalism career had begun. He has worked at KFDM in Beaumont, Texas as a reporter for two years and later worked in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at KTVY. In 1985, he received the first-place award for Spot News Reporting from Sigma Delta Chi.
In 1987, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and served as Special Projects and Environmental Reporter for KUTV. After two years of time there, he moved back to Oklahoma City on the weekend anchor desk. It is during that time he received the UPI Tri-State Individual Reporting Achievement Award. From Oklahoma City, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to anchor weekdays at KARK. In 1991, when the station started its award-winning newscast, FOX59 News at 10, he was voted the lead anchor in Indianapolis at WXIN FOX59. In 1992 and 1994 WXIN became the “Fox Station of the Year” with the help of his efforts.
Donaldson also produced Emmy-award-winning special reports and documentaries apart from his work on the anchor desk during his long career at FOX59. He launched the highly-rated launch of FOX59 News First at Four, which led to the station’s expansion at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. He also served for a brief stint as FOX59 Interim News Director and until recently, served as the newsroom’s Managing Editor as well.
In one year, he served two stations as an anchor prior to leaving FOX59 News at 10 to only serve CBS4 evening newscasts. Donaldson is the longest-tenured male anchor in the Indianapolis market. He has involved himself with some community groups like the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Center for Leadership Development, Habitat for Humanity, College Mentors for Kids as well as the Children’s Bureau. Presently he works with the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation.
