Williams works for WATE News, a station he joined in August 2002. He serves as an anchor for the WATE News morning newscast. Additionally, Williams works as a co-anchor for the 4 pm news hour. Along with his anchoring duties, Williams puts together a weekly franchise piece called “Streetwise,” in which he looks at various road concerns and projects, produces morning radio news hits, serves as a mentor for the younger reporters, anchors, and producers, as well as anchors Breaking News from the field.
Williams began his career as a journalist at WPDE-TV in the Florence/Myrtle Beach market, where he worked as a weekend sportscaster. He was later promoted to sports director in 1991. In 1992, he joined WCBD-TV as a sports director, a position he worked in t up to 1999, when he made his exit from the station. From WCBD-TV, Williams joined WBRZ-TV, where he also served as a sports director.
Throughout his career as a journalist, Williams has received several accolades, including an Emmy award for the Best Newscast, South Carolina Associated Press Awards, Media General Circle of Excellence, and Gambit Weekly award for Best of Baton Rouge. Williams is also an active member of the community as he is the President of the Advisory Board for the John T. O’Connor Senior Center in Knoxville.
