Billie Jean Shaw is an American Anchor/Reporter/Multi-Media Journalist working for WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina as an anchor at 7 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. She joined the station in April 2015 and rejoined in August 2021 after working for four years in Charlotte, North Carolina at the NBC affiliate.

Shaw is an anchor for WIS News at 7 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. The Emmy-nominated and award-winning journalist rejoined the WIS news team after working in Charlotte, North Carolina at the NBC affiliate for four years. While working in Charlotte, she excelled in many roles including morning reporter, general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor.
Being known for her ability to easily connect with viewers, while in Charlotte Jean landed several exclusives including exclusive coverage the 2017 ambush and murder of a York County, the FBI investigation into unlawful arrests made by the former sheriff of Chester County, SC; SC detective; the election of Charlotte’s first female Mayor; and the death of South Carolina’s first black chief justice, Ernest Finney. Shaw also hosted, created, and produced “For the Culture,” a segment highlighting and educating people on issues and topics in communities of color.
Before moving in Charlotte, Billie worked at WIS as a general assignment reporter, where she was well-known for her exclusive reporting. She was one of the first reporters to the scene of the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. in 2015. Billie was the first reporter to speak with the family and attorney of Keith Scott in 2016. Scott was fatally shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenberg police officer which sparked several nights of protests.
While at Winthrop University, Shaw worked in Washington, DC where she covered political news on Capitol Hill and issues in the community. After graduating from college, Jean was hired as an at the FOX affiliate in Charlotte, NC as an Assignment Desk Editor and Digital Journalist. While at FOX, she was the first to report on the historic Civil Rights case of the “Friendship Nine,” breaking the news that a judge would overturn the men’s 54-year-old convictions.
In 2017, her work was recognized by the South Carolina Senate issuing a proclamation applauding her professionalism and service to the community. Later in the year 2019, Billie was selected by the South Carolina Education Association to receive the prestigious School Bell Award which is an award given to journalists who have made an outstanding impact in the community by reporting positive roles in public education.
