Higgins serves KGTV as the sports director. He joined 10 News in November 2002. Additionally, he has served the station for more than 2 decades. His favorite memories are frequenting Game 5 of the NLCS at Jack Murphy Stadium and watching the Padres beat the Cubs to progress to their initial World Series. After graduating college, he served XTRA Sports 690 radio in 1997 for three years.
Additionally, he served San Diego Padres Pre- and Post-Game Shows on AM 600 KOGO as a co-host. Throughout Spring Training 2003, he served as a play-by-play alongside the legendary Jerry Coleman. When he joined 10 News, he served as part of the station’s special broadcast leading up to Super Bowl XXXVII at Qualcomm Stadium.
Aside from nightly broadcasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., he served as a host of a number of 10News specials. For instance, four trips to Williamsport, Pa., to broadcast the Little League World Series in 2005 and 2009, 2013, and 2015. Also, he provided coverage for the championship team from Park View Little League in Chula Vista. This serves as one of his all-time favorite stories.
Further, he served as a co-host of the top-rated radio morning program, “Ben and Woods” on the Padre’s flagship station, 97.3 The Fan. Previously, he served as a host of sports-talk radio programs on The Mighty 1090 and on XTRA Sports 1360. In addition to that, he served as one of the radio play-by-play voices for USD football, USD basketball, and SDSU baseball. In his free time, he serves as an ardent golfer.
