Sabella is an Anchor and Reporter working for WTKR. He started his career at Lansing’s WILX (NBC/FOX). Following that, he worked for two years as a reporter for Flint, Michigan’s WJRT (ABC), where he extensively covered the city’s lead water issue. Sabella offers the group more than ten years of experience in the field of professional journalism. Anthony has covered a range of themes while working in Hampton Roads and northern North Carolina, including hurricanes, crime, and community issues. Anthony assisted in overseeing News 3’s live coverage of both the deadly Walmart shooting in 2022 and the passage of Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
He has also gained recognition for his vivacious morning live reports highlighting local events and his feature stories spotlighting small companies. The first year of the COVID-19 outbreak was largely devoted to Anthony’s reporting on the struggles of neighborhood restaurants to operate under government regulations. His reporting helped his station win a regional Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy. Additionally, Anthony received the 2015 Rising Star in Television News award from the Associated Press of Michigan. Since then, he has received a nomination for another Emmy in 2018 as well as a 2022 Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters award for “Best Multimedia Journalist.”
Anthony received the “Best Of” award from Coastal Virginia Magazine in 2021 for being the “Best Local TV News Reporter”! Anthony adores his home city of Hampton Roads. When he’s not at work, he spends time at the nearby beach and dining out with his wife and golden dog. He is also very passionate about music! State of Fifths, a college a cappella group, is where Anthony and his wife first got together. In the Spartan Marching Band of Michigan State University, Anthony also played trumpet. He currently serves on the Virginia Opera’s Hampton Roads Board of Governors.
