She began her career at another South Florida television station as a news writer, which is where she got her first taste of the broadcast journalism business. McAllister began her first on-air job in Monroe, Louisiana.

Later on, she moved to New Orleans, where she worked as a reporter, anchor, and producer. She covered the extensive damage left behind by the gubernatorial race, Hurricane Ida, multiple high-profile crimes, and several deadly tornadoes during her time in Louisiana.
