Andrew graduated with a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia. He came to NBC12 from Roanoke. Freiden has been awarded lots of Reader’s Choice Wards in local publications, Four Emmy awards, and a VAB award for Outstanding Effort by a meteorologist. After he graduated from U.Va., Freiden spent two weeks shadowing Patrick Evans in Roanoke at WDBJ7. It was at that time when Freiden said, “Ok, I can do this.” Working in a place all the time is right up his alley where you can talk about the weather. After his high school diploma. Later on, he received a degree in environmental science from Virginia University.
According to Nancy Kent Smith, the news director for NBC-12, “He was one of the first meteorologists anywhere to break weather forecasting down to different parts of the day.” She claims that he also places it in context. He does more than simply predict that it will rain tomorrow. He makes the extra effort to let you know if it will rain during the soccer game in the afternoon or the fireworks display in the evening. It helps that he has a sizable team of meteorologists on his side, including Jim Duncan, a stalwart forecaster who came in second. David Tolleris, who took third place, stands out partly because he isn’t on television. Both individuals and companies actively monitor his forecasts.
