Her research study ‘Women Weathercasters: Their Education, positions, and Presence in Local TV’ is the largest known biographical study of television weathercasters in the United States.
The American Meteorological Society awarded her with a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM). From the Associated Press, she has earned Best Weathercast in Louisiana, and from the Press Club of New Orleans Best Weathercast in New Orleans. Moreover, she won awards from Women in Media and the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.
She used to be a science fan until she chose meteorology as a career in college. Cranford did mass communication courses and attended LSU’s campus broadcast news station due to her love of English and reading. She discovered she had found a satisfying intersection of science and English when she started dabbling in weather forecasting for the university-wide newscasts.
