His career has taken him into the elements of numerous unforgettable storms, including the Blizzard of 2013, Super Storm Sandy, and the Tornado Outbreak in western Massachusetts in 2011, and the powerful January Nor’easter of 2018 (sometimes referred to as the “Bomb Cyclone”). Asides from working as a Meteorologist he carries on a proud family tradition of volunteerism, emceeing several local events and galas.
Burnett holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval for excellence in broadcast meteorology and is part of the American Meteorological Society. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter awarded him with a regional Emmy award in 2022 for storm reporting during a Nor’easter.
He has been selected many times for his work with NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle teams reporting climate change, including an initiative across all Hearst Television stations to address issues Americans face in navigating changing weather patterns, their impact on local communities and economies, and his contributions to the “Forecasting Our Future” franchise.
